Bayalage, also known as hair painting gives the hair a natural, lived-in look. This type of hair technique is low maintenance as the stylist keeps the regrowth to its natural color while blending it with the lighter to give a soft diffused effect on the hair.
In the picture above this would be considered a level 10 ash-blonde balayage with a root tap (level 6N) to help blend the two colors.
You will need 2 tint bowls, 2 tint brushes, foils, lightener, developer(Volume 10 and 30), demi-permanent hair color (10NA Ash blonde for mids and ends, 5N for root tap), gloves, shampoo comb and hair clips.
Mix the lightener as per manufactures directions
Section and clip the hair into 3 sections (ear to ear across the occipital bone, temple to temple, and cross the crown)
Starting in the lowest section, divide the section in half (left side a right side) On one side begin painting a "V" on that section of hair in the middle of the "V" feather the lightener up the hair to help diffuse and blend into the darker color
Apply foil over the hair to keep the lightener from bleeding on to other sections
Repeat steps 4&5 throughout the entire head. Let process for 45-60 mins or until hair reaches a pale yellow color (like the inside of a banana.) Be sure to be checking the hair every 10 minutes so it does not over process.
Rinse the hair in lukewarm water
Dry the hair with a towel so it's damp
Mix your toners with 10 volume developer. (As per manufactures instructions)
Apply the 5N toner to the roots by tapping it on with a tint brush on the roots and approximately 3 inches from the roots throughout the entire head.
Apply the 10NA toner throughout the mid strands and ends of the hair.
Use a shampoo comb to brush through the hair to help further blend the colors together.
Let the toner sit on the hair for 10-15 minutes. Keep checking toner every 5 minutes for the desired tone and color.
Once the toner is done processing, rinse with lukewarm water.
Style to your choice!
